Every two years I try to go back to the Philippines to meet my family. The last time, I met my cousin Voltaire, who has been working ever since as a seaman on cargo ships. When we sat together, chatting, he showed me photographs of his last annual 7-month-working-period on one of those ships.
For the exhibition in Kunstraum Bethanien I chose one of his images, which captures an atmosphere of longing. It catches a glimpse of his personal view which is settled between the monotony of work and the rough beauty of the sea.
